- ARTISOFT NOW SHIPPING ARTICOM(TM) MODEM-SHARING SOFTWARE
-
- Allows Asynchronous COM Port Sharing on any NetBIOS LAN
-
- (TUCSON, Ariz. -- December 17, 1991) -- Artisoft, Inc., the
- Tucson-based manufacturer of the award-winning LANtastic« Local
- Area Network, announced today that it has begun shipping its
- ArtiCom modem-sharing software. Priced at $399 per network, ArtiCom
- software allows asynchronous COM port sharing on any LAN operating
- under NetBIOS including Artisoft's LANtastic and Novell's NetWare«
- networks.
-
- "ArtiCom software provides a cost-effective way for network
- users to share modems, faxes and other communication devices from
- any computer on the LAN," said Jack Schoof, Artisoft President and
- CEO.
-
- ArtiCom software can be installed on a PC to create modem
- workstations, modem servers, or combination modem
- workstation/servers. This is independent of whether the PC is a
- network workstation or server. Users can share up to four modems
- per ArtiCom server with no limit to the number of modem servers on
- the network.
-
- ArtiCom software allows network users to share COM port
- devices like modems, faxes, serial printers and plotters, including
- plotters that require bi-directional communication. It includes a
- built-in terminal emulation program, providing users with (MORE)
- access to host mainframes, BBS, and other systems available by
- modem without purchasing additional communication software.
-
- The ArtiCom software operates as a TSR program, requires less
- than 6K of RAM, and is unloadable from memory. Designed to support
- communications products with LAN API Interrupt 14 (INT14) support,
- the ArtiCom software is compatible with products such as
- Communications Research Group's BLAST« PC, Caber Software's
- COM-AND, DCA's Crosstalk« Mk. 4, Future Software Engineering's
- DynaComm« Asynchronous Edition, SoftKlone's Mirror III«, Datastorm
- Technology's Procomm Plus« LAN Version, Hayes Microcomputer
- Product's Smartcom ExecTM and Synappsys' WinComm.
-
- The ArtiCom software was also designed to take advantage of
- the First In First Out (FIFO) buffer mode of the NS16550A Universal
- Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) chip, which allows the
- flow of information from the internal mode to the PC to move
- faster.
-
- Artisoft develops and manufactures a full line of hardware and
- software for local area networks including the LANtastic Local Area
- Network. The LANtastic network is the leading DOS-based
- peer-to-peer network and has won numerous industry awards for its
- cost-effective features, performance, and ease of use. It allows up
- to 300 users of IBM«-compatible computers to connect and share
- information and peripheral devices such as printers, hard drives
- and CD-ROMs.
