  14.       (TUCSON, Ariz. -- December 17, 1991) -- Artisoft, Inc., the
  15. Tucson-based manufacturer of the award-winning LANtastic« Local
  16. Area Network, announced today that it has begun shipping its
  17. ArtiCom modem-sharing software. Priced at $399 per network, ArtiCom
  18. software allows asynchronous COM port sharing on any LAN operating
  19. under NetBIOS including Artisoft's LANtastic and Novell's NetWare«
  20. networks.

  22.       "ArtiCom software provides a cost-effective way for network
  23. users to share modems, faxes and other communication devices from
  24. any computer on the LAN," said Jack Schoof, Artisoft President and
  25. CEO.

  27.       ArtiCom software can be installed on a PC to create modem
  28. workstations, modem servers, or combination modem
  29. workstation/servers. This is independent of whether the PC is a
  30. network workstation or server. Users can share up to four modems
  31. per ArtiCom server with no limit to the number of modem servers on
  32. the network.

  34.       ArtiCom software allows network users to share COM port
  35. devices like modems, faxes, serial printers and plotters, including
  36. plotters that require bi-directional communication. It includes a
  37. built-in terminal emulation program, providing users with (MORE)
  38. access to host mainframes, BBS, and other systems available by
  39. modem without purchasing additional communication software.

  41.       The ArtiCom software operates as a TSR program, requires less
  42. than 6K of RAM, and is unloadable from memory. Designed to support
  43. communications products with LAN API Interrupt 14 (INT14) support,
  44. the ArtiCom software is compatible with products such as
  45. Communications Research Group's BLAST« PC, Caber Software's
  46. COM-AND, DCA's Crosstalk« Mk. 4, Future Software Engineering's
  47. DynaComm« Asynchronous Edition, SoftKlone's Mirror III«, Datastorm
  48. Technology's Procomm Plus« LAN Version, Hayes Microcomputer
  49. Product's Smartcom ExecTM and Synappsys' WinComm.

  51.       The ArtiCom software was also designed to take advantage of
  52. the First In First Out (FIFO) buffer mode of the NS16550A Universal
  53. Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) chip, which allows the
  54. flow of information from the internal mode to the PC to move
  55. faster.
